The Process of Making Basic Bowls
3. Cut a bowl blank.
1. Harvest the log from a fallen tree. Cut to length.
2. Check log for grain and interesting characteristics. Remove pith.
4. Rough out the bowl leaving about 10% more wood than finished bowl.
5. Coat bowl with sealer to slow drying
process and prevent checking.
6. Store bowl and monitor moisture level for at least a year.
7. Finish turning and shaping bowl.
9. Buff using carnauba wax.
8. Sand and apply several coats of finishes.
